Intermittent Fasting Results: Worth Starving?

A quick breakdown of my intermittent fasting results for the past six-ishs months.

Fasting as a whole is super beneficial for health and fatloss reasons. I have never been one who could handle a 48 hr fast OR juice cleanse (kill me) as they make me go to a really dark place. Which is why I would have never guessed that I would EVER write a post on “intermittent fasting results” as I love food more than life itself. And only allowing myself a small time frame to consume my daily calories, who the f*ck am I?!!

Not to mention the fact that I have really traumatic memories of my parents forcing me into participating in religious fasts. I spent the whole day listening about Jesus only thinking if he really loved me and died for my sins, then why did I have to wait 24 hours to eat a slice of bread?! Clearly I have some leftover resentment towards my parents that I should hash out with a therapist, but HOPE has a new meaning now that I converted to a daily ritual fast.

Let me make it clear that I am what you call a flexible intermittent faster. No timers or accountability groups for this b*tch. I only intermittent fast during the work week and have now become an intuitive intermittent faster as well on the weekends (but in the beginning I didn’t IF at all on the weekends, takis were going to be inhaled at 9am). I also only do a 14-16 hour fast meaning that I start eating at noon and stop eating around 7-9pm.

It’s so painless now and my intermittent fasting results are A-M-A-Z-I-N-G.

So quick recap :

IF Schedule : M-F / intuitively on the weekends

IF Time Frame : start eating at noon and stop eating around 7pm-9pm (14-16 hour fast)

I drink a sh*t ton of water especially during the time from when I wake up until I break my fast at noon. This has led to clearer skin, less junk in my system, curving my appetitive, more energy, & feeling less lethargic. I drink about 3-4 cups of water in the morning to clean out my system and helps me have a more beneficial fast for clearing any toxins. It’s like a “mini water fast” every morning! & it totally satisfies me until lunch!

I don’t know about you, but my goal is always finding ways to eat MORE delicious food while maintaining a banging body. Call me crazy, but intermittent fasting was the solution that allows me to neglect the domestic life and order take-out on a daily basis for dinner. I am talking about burritos OR sushi with donuts for dessert without the dreaded consequence of self-hate the next morning. By skipping a meal in the morning and eating more veggies/low calorie dense foods throughout the workday, I have leftover calories even when I am cutting (dropping my calories for fatloss) which means more snackssss at night!

I am lazy as f*ck when it comes to cooking a meal in the kitchen and it was the worst having to stop my morning productivity to burn some egg whites. By cutting out eating until noon, it allows me to be WAY more productive and get my top priorities for my day job (plus a little blogging…shhh) out of the way. And that whole “breakfast is the best meal of the day” with a happy white family eating corn flakes commercial is totally BS.ย The rule of thumb is if I hit my calorie intake goals, it doesn’t matter if I go without a microwavable oatmeal packet – I will survive.

Bonus : I have cut my meal prep time in HALF by only having to prep lunch and snacks.

I just have SO much energy in the mornings which means no more crashes at 9am!! The amount of clarity and focus is probably the number one reason I keep sticking with it regardless of looking hotter. AND I am as vain as you can get, I told Aaron stoned that all I wanted was to be the most beautiful b*tch on this planet (#deepthoughts). I also need ZERO caffeine OR pick-me-up drinks. I was the queen of complaining about never getting enough sleep and always being exhausted, not with intermittent fasting. I feel fantastic pretty much every morning!

If I can occasionally eat a family size bag of takis with half a carton of Ben & Jerry’s and STILL see my abs, I am on the right path. The best part about intermittent fasting is overall feeling less bloat (except during that TOM) and looking leaner. I am going to be combining that with stricter macros and overall higher nutritional value foods these next couple months which will only enhance my abs, help me gain more muscle, and get rid of that stubborn fat. Lots of nutritionist have recommended IF to help with stubborn plateaus because that is how beneficial fasting is for fatloss. BUT even without a pristine diet, I have noticed a change in appearance with more muscle definition (I FINALLY GOT ABS…about time) and keeping bloat at bay.

So I won’t even pretend like I know all the health benefits and I know one of my strong suits is NOT explaining science. I did recently watch this fascinating video on Joe Rogan’s Podcast channel with Dr. Rhonda Patrick (you can watch that video here). They talk about the benefits of IF in a super nerdy way that a white girl who failed science can understand. There are so many reasons to fast and cleanse and allow your body a break from shoving food down your throat! Overall, if I haven’t made it clear in this post, I feel so much healthier with my current addition of intermittent fasting!

2 Quick Tips For Beginner IFers

LEARNING CURVE – It’s an adjustment the first couple weeks and then I was solid! The biggest culprits to wanting to quit your fast is out of boredom OR dehydration OR you co-worker walking by with a bomb breakfast burrito. Stay busy AND drink a ton of water AND try not to kill your co-workers.

MAKE SURE YOU EAT ENOUGH – I recently took up kickboxing which is kicking my a$$ which means more cardio which also means I was starving all the f*cking time. The biggest thing that will make IF turn south real fast is not eating enough during my allotted window! So it’s been an adjustment bumping up my calories to make sure I am not starving while waiting until noon. I should NEVER feel starving or weak during fasting – that’s a sign I am not eating enough protein and carbs.

EXERCISE & DIET – This isn’t a hack or trick into getting leaner while sitting my fat a$$ on the couch all day while dipping steak in melted butter (although when I am ready to fully let myself go at age 80, this will be happening). When I combine IF with intense 45 min workouts and proper nutrition, that is when the results start happening. It’s not a miracle cure to enabling laziness. I would say it’s rather a BOOSTER to the daily regimen of proper exercise and nutrition.

Any of you guys have intermittent fasting results?

Heather has done IF also. My concern (for me) is that being a Diabetic that this would cause a blood sugar crash. Thoughts?

I lost 40 lbs in 4 months with IF. (And had no energy issues and no blood sugar crashes which surprised me)
I need to get back into it. I took a vacation to an all you can eat and drink resort and never got back to my schedule which was 16/8 eating from 12-8. I still pretty much wait to eat until 12 but the nighttime snacking has been out or control ๐Ÿ˜ซ๐Ÿ˜ซ
